What's on today's agenda?
You'd be surprised to find out that 3 simple things help artists fail. But, let's focus on one of the things that prevent success.
Why Artists Fail #1
Personally, I have a passion for helping people. I'm knowledgeable enough to give advice, so I became a consultant. Being a consultant was an excellent way to show people how to get it right. But, to understand how to help others, I had to take a moment and look at myself. So, what is it that was keeping me from succeeding? As it turns out, I wasn't the only one having a problem answering this question.
I'll be the lab rat on this one to explain what I went through and what I learned. I've always been able to come up with good ideas, but I also used to get distracted a lot. It's always suggested to focus on one thing, but my brain doesn't work that way. And apparently, I'm not alone. First, I'd have an idea, and then I would add other things to my plate. Soon after, I'd begin a new brainstorming session and add more ideas and tasks to my list of things to do. It wouldn't take long after that that my thoughts would start to scatter, and the original idea would get overwhelming. Finally, when it would be time to define what I wanted to do, I'd be so swamped with so many thoughts and things to do that I would forget how to explain it all. Honestly, I was doing too much.
I was suffering from an Unclear Vision. I've had this happen to me for a long time. Maybe, the effects of knowing too much, huh!
My Solution: Having a clear vision is knowing what is most important to you at the deepest level. Instead of looking at what you want to do, define why you want to do it. Your reasoning does not have to be profound or prolific. It only needs to be what will motivate you repeatedly to keep going. It has to be enough to get you out of bed when you want to sleep in. Your vision of what you want for your life/career should be connected to your purpose.
Truthfully, you can have several visions that link up with each other. Then, as you feel them comprehensively, you acknowledge where you are and want to be.
Steps to Success:
GET CLEAR ABOUT YOUR VISION
KNOWING WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT TO YOU AT THE DEEPEST LEVEL
ACKNOWLEDGE WHERE YOU ARE AND WANT TO BE
