MFW PILLOW TALK: #3 COMPROMISE

Updated: Jan 21, 2022

Let me say this: Compromise is not about you agreeing to everything your partner says or chooses. Compromise takes IN what you both want and can live with to grow together. A good relationship comes with compromise and understanding, and often than not, you'll hate the idea of giving in.

As individuals, Leia and I are very competitive and absolutely love debating. Still, there are times when one of us is wrong and should 'stand down,' admit fault (though we don't like the idea), and/or apologize. It's not just talking about admitting you're wrong; I'm saying, take a moment to give a little more than you get when it's better for the both of you.

Being right all the time can foster resentment and a feeling of being demeaned if you're the one that's seemingly wrong all the time. Compromise is about finding the right for both of you no matter how it makes you personally feel in that moment because it's the right thing to do for the both of you. So you and your partner have to mentally prepare that there will be times where this will occur and agree on common ground.

Acknowledging and respecting another's point of view without choosing to disregard it with an "I'm right…" reply isn't a good solution.

Even with us both wanting to be right all the time, we both understand that isn't important or possible. So instead, what is important is how each of us feels more than being right all the time.

Lastly, if you keep in mind #1 RESPECT as well as #2 ACCEPTANCE with compromise, then you're well on your way to a lasting relationship. #PillowTalk
